The total market value of a company's outstanding shares, calculated as share price × number of shares outstanding. It's the standard way to gauge a company's size and is used to sort stocks into categories: large-cap (generally $10 billion+), mid-cap ($2–10 billion), and small-cap (under $2 billion) — categories that matter for risk and diversification decisions.
