Selling short

Borrowing shares of a stock and selling them immediately, betting the price will fall so you can buy them back later at a lower price and pocket the difference. Unlike a normal ("long") position, where the most you can lose is what you invested, a short position carries theoretically unlimited risk, since a stock's price can keep rising indefinitely.
